After reflecting on the terrorist outrange which took place in Westminster the previous day, the sentiment to try and continue going about business undeterred was expressed.

“The people in this room are all competitors but we all work together and this makes us stronger. We have forged great partnerships with those who support this industry; we have a great team led by General Manager, Phillipa Atkinson-Clow.

“I believe we can make a positive difference to the financial dynamics of our sector especially through work on POU. Our PR programme, using both traditional and social media, continues to help build the profile of the Association. Membership has increased and this is the biggest water cooler trade association in Europe.”

What were the Water Cooler Market data highlights for 2016?

  • The total market continued to grow
  • It was worth £129 million in 2016 compared with £123 million the previous year – nearly 5% growth.
  • Market size in 2016 was 651,000 water cooler units compared with 645,000 at the end of 2015, an increase of 1% and the fourth successive year of growth.
  • Both bottled water coolers and POU (mains-fed) coolers have increased in numbers in the past year, but the bottled water segment accounted for the major increase in units rented.

three pointers for a successful attitude were:

OWN – take personal ownership of every moment to turn it into an opportunity to make a winning difference
DECIDE – trade considered risks in decision making to turn opportunity to advantage
DO – just do it effectively and excellently every time to for a win.

Delegates are encouraged to think about what they took away from Frank’s talk and
implement in their personal and/or business lives. There are 5 prizes up for grabs for the
best entries – by the end of May 2017.

At the beginning of 2016, the BWCA set up its first Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Thanks to the enormous generosity of donors, Members and guests who attended the 2016 conference, trade show and gala dinner, the initial target was exceeded so that the BWCA was able to fund its first borehole.

Now, Kalungwishi Village in Zambia has its own source of clean, safe water and this first Just a Drop project funded by BWCA Members has transformed the lives of the 200 villagers.

Brendan Hanlon and his colleague Louise Geoghagen again attended the BWCA event and Brendan delivered a moving presentation showing film footage of the Kalungwishi villages helping to build the new borehole.

“We are so grateful to the BWCA and its Members for supporting us and are delighted that funds are being raised for a second borehole in another village.”

And in fact, the BWCA is delighted to report that activities during the Trade Show, the charity auction and additional donations raised enough to fund the building of this second borehole. This was an amazing achievement, due in no small measure to the generosity of the Members’ donations and the ability of Wenlock Springs’ Bruce Orme, our brilliant auctioneer.
